Bill Gates: The next outbreak? We’re not ready


In 2014, the world avoided a horrific global outbreak of Ebola, thanks to thousands of selfless health workers — plus, frankly, thanks to some very good luck. In hindsight, we know what we should have done better. So, now’s the time, Bill Gates suggests, to put all our good ideas into practice, from scenario planning to vaccine research to health worker training. As he says, “There’s no need to panic … but we need to get going.”

  3. Our societies have gotten to the point where "leaders" think about and think primarily of the short term. Planning for anything–you've got to be kidding! Developing coordinated interconnected responses–no! And now here we. Covid-19.

    Talk about a double standard.. all you peasants better get your injections but dont expect the royal Gates family to do the same.

    The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security in partnership with the World Economic Forum and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation hosted Event 201, a high-level pandemic exercise on October 18, 2019, in New York, NY. The exercise illustrated areas where public/private partnerships will be necessary during the response to a severe pandemic in order to diminish large-scale economic and societal consequences.

    The training was for a coronavirus, just a few weeks before the contagion in Wuhan..
